Howard M. Schoor: One Man, Many Missions

Entrepreneur… Philanthropist… Humanitarian… Howard M. Schoor boasts a professional and personal resume that showcases his ability to take a mere idea and transform it into a brilliant reality. A graduate of Lafayette College, Easton, Pennsylvania, Howard M. Schoor earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and did graduate work at New York University. And that was the foundation of a successful career in engineering, as well as land development, real estate, banking and much more. Although his areas of expertise are vast and wide-ranging, one thing that remains consistent is his drive to make a change and build things from the ground up, regardless of what he is doing.

From 1967 to 1992, Howard M. Schoor, CEO and founder of Schoor DePalma Inc., worked in planning, design, project development and construction management. At Schoor DePalma, Howard M. Schoor, CEO, led his company to earn many prestigious accolades within the industry including being ranked as one of the top firms in the country by Engineering News Record, being recognized as one of the five best engineering firms in the nation for which to work and being named the best firm to work for in New Jersey by NJ Biz.

With his countless professional accomplishments at Schoor DePalma, Howard M. Schoor was just getting started. He went on to form SGS Communities where he was chairman. The company which specialized in home building and land development was eventually acquired by D.R. Horton, a public traded company which is considered one of the largest residential builders in the United States. He served as Vice Chairman of D.R. Horton Inc. – New Jersey until 2006.

In the midst of all of his other endeavors, Schoor started Howard Schoor Consulting, a land development and real estate consulting company. Under the Howard Schoor Consulting umbrella, Howard M. Schoor formed the Woodstone Group, which does land development and building of high-quality, handcrafted custom homes. Through Howard Schoor Consulting and the Woodstone Group, Howard M. Schoor, CEO, came up with the concept of the picturesque second home community, Chapin Estate, 5,500-plus acres of lush land and brilliant homes.

A true visionary, Howard M. Schoor’s innovation goes well beyond his achievements with Schoor DePalma, SGS Communities and Howard Schoor Consulting. He also invented the Seat Strap, a clever contraption designed to keep books, briefcases and much more safe and secure in the car. He is also the former owner of Showplace Farms and has served as Founder, Chairman and Director of Community Bank of New Jersey, Director of Sun National Bank, Director of Midlantic/Merchants National Bank and New Era Bank. He has served on the board of directors of YHD and Foxtons North America.

Throughout his career, Howard M. Schoor has always been a staunch philanthropist and humanitarian. He established the Schoor Family Foundation. whichhe single-handedly funded.  The Foundation makes donations to various causes that Howard M. Schoor holds close to his heart. For more than 20 years, he has served on the Board of Directors of Collier Services where he created the Collier Youth Services Foundation. To recognize Howard M. Schoor for his efforts and contributions, Collier Services established the Howard M. Schoor Humanitarian Fund. He has lent himself with vigorous dedication to many charities including the Jewish Federation of Monmouth County, the American Heart Association, the Monmouth County Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, the Centra State Healthcare Foundation and many more.
